It feels like we talk past one another. We react rather than listen.
We avoid conversations because we’re not sure how to have them without things going sideways.
It can leave us feeling frustrated, disconnected, or simply unsure of what to do differently.
The good news: there are skills we can learn.
You can learn to listen more closely, respond with care, and navigate meaningful or difficult conversations with greater confidence.

Maybe someone you care about was hurting, and you weren’t sure how to support them without jumping in to fix the problem.
Maybe someone expressed a strong opinion you disagreed with, and you could feel yourself getting pulled toward arguing, defending, shutting down, or avoiding the conversation altogether.
Or perhaps emotions rose quickly, and you could feel understanding and connection slipping away.
Most of us were never taught what to do in those moments.
We may want to offer support without giving unwanted advice, disagree without escalating, set a boundary without becoming harsh, or acknowledge another person’s perspective without pretending we agree.
We may also want to express ourselves clearly and feel heard in return.
These skills can be learned. But knowing what to do and being able to do it in the moment are not the same. That takes practice.
That’s why I created the Better Conversations Lab.
Better Conversations Lab helps you notice your automatic reactions sooner, create a little more space before responding, and discover other ways you might choose to show up.
This is an interactive learning experience, not a lecture series.
You’ll learn practical tools and begin using them in real time.
Over five weeks, we’ll explore how to:
Listen without immediately trying to fix, advise, or solve
Notice your reactions and create space to choose what comes next
Ask thoughtful questions that deepen understanding
Respond with care when someone is upset or struggling
Stay present when conversations become difficult
Communicate in ways that build trust and strengthen relationships
These skills can seem deceptively simple at first. In reality, using them in real conversations takes awareness and practice.
The goal is not perfect communication. Over these five weeks, you’ll build your ability to notice more, respond with intention, and have more choices available when conversations matter most.
They are skills that can change the way we show up with the people in our lives.
Wednesdays 6:30pm - 8pm
In person in Milford, NH
The Better Conversations Lab is intentionally limited to a small number of participants so that everyone has time to ask questions, participate, and try things out.
- Will I have to share personal information? You will never be required to share anything personal.
You’ll be invited to participate in discussion and practice, but you will always decide what you’re comfortable sharing. For our practice sessions, you may choose to use real-life situations, hypothetical examples, or practice prompts provided during the Lab. - What happens if I miss a session? You will receive the participant materials provided for the session you miss. Because the Lab includes live discussion, demonstrations, and interactive practice, a missed session cannot be fully recreated or replaced with a private make-up session.
- Is this for couples or individuals? Each participant registers individually, and you do not need to know anyone else in the group. If you do come as a couple, you will not always practice together inside the Lab, but you can certainly practice the skills together in real time.
The Lab is designed to create a welcoming and supportive learning environment for all participants. - Have a question not answered here? Please reach out to me directly at support@betterconversationslab.com with any questions you may have.
